In 1770 Francesco Guardi made this baroque work of art. The artpiece measures the size: 19 × 30 3/4 ίντσες (48,3 × 78,1 εκ.). Oil on canvas was used by the European artist as the technique for the artwork. What is more, the work of art forms part of the digital collection of Το Μητροπολιτικό Μουσείο Τέχνης. Francesco Guardi was a painter of Italian nationality, whose art style was primarily Baroque. The Baroque painter was born in 1712 in Venice, Venezia province, Veneto, Italy and died at the age of 81 in the year 1793.

Guardi’s views of Venice differ from those of Canaletto in that they are less about a detailed description of individual buildings than an attempt to convey the magic of the city, enveloped—as here—in a diaphanous, silvery light. This view shows the cemetery island of San Michele with its early Renaissance church, designed by Mauro Codussi in 1469, flanked, on one side, by the domed Cappella Emiliani and the Gothic belltower and, on the other, by the (former) Camaldolensian monastery.
